first visit to chandni chowk

When we talk about cheap goods, we usually talk about Sarojani, Sadar Bazar or Karol Bagh and Chandni Chowk. Today our group visited Chandni Chowk, a hub for everything and anything we want and at a affordable rate.

Today we roamed around the gulleys of Jama Masjid and spoke to the people about how they worked and from how long are they working. We got to know that shops are quite old and some shops are there from generations. One of the oldest shop I saw was established during 1970's. If they are earning so much there, then why to change the shop right?
We talked to a shopkeeper there. We asked about his family members and he said he had 2 daughters and one son. He said if his son will score well, he will let him be whatever he wishes to  be. But if he didn’t then he will carry on with the family business. It seemed a bit strange to me as joining a the family business almost seemed like a compulsion. Then I asked him will he let his daughters also sit in same business, he said no. This area is not safe as all kind of people visit here and what will his daughter do sitting in the shop. Her main perspective is to get married and do household work.
It was not fair in my point of view as girls are nowadays so smart and they are good in every field. It was strange as one part of Delhi is so advance and first in everything, where girls are working in every place and at the best post. Whereas in this place, people have backward thinking and they just continue with their old lives as usual and with the same mentality as people used to have earlier.

As we walked from metro station towards the Masjid, we saw a lot of chaos in that place. It was dirty even though dustbins were kept but nobody really cared. There were lot beggars on the staircase and those beggars were not at all in good shape. They were very sick and due some kind of allergy saliva was coming out of their mouth. It was very bad to watch them suffer like that. Some kind of provision should be should be made for them.

Further we went to Meena Bazaar. The place was totally about Muslim culture, there were burkhas of many kinds, the nakabs and mats. After that, as we were very tired and hungry we all searched for food and went to Karims. There we ordered seekh kababs, chicken biryani, mutton, kheer, butter naan and rumali roti. After having delicious food we went inside Jama Masjid and sat there and relaxed. We had to carry our shoes in our hand. The place was very peaceful. We compiled all our sketches. On our way home I was quiet and thinking that Chandni Chowk is a completely different place with some problems and also some  good points; it is very different from the Delhi we stay in. The two parts of the same city is very contradictory.
